DOG FRIENDLY HIKES
Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks

Are you traveling with your furry friend? Dogs are welcome to join you on your stay at Sequoia Resort (with just a few house rules - see below). We love our dogs and know that they make great road trip and adventure companions.

Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on any of the trails within Sequoia National Park or Kings Canyon National Park. However, fear not, there are still great trails within the national forest surrounding both national parks that welcome your four-legged friends.

Here is a list of some of the best dog friendly hikes in the area:

Dead Giant Loop Trail:

If you want to experience old growth forest and sequoias with your dog this is a great trail for you. The full trail is a 7-mile loop through national forest land but can be made shorter if you just hike in and back. It is rated as easy and should be accessible for most skill levels.
Boole Tree Trail (Converse Basin Grove):

Until 1931 it was thought that the Boole Tree was the largest tree in the world. It turned out to be the 6th largest tree but it is the biggest that you will find in national forest land. This trail is a 2.5-mile loop with incredible views along the way.
Weaver Lake Trail:

This is a moderate level, dog-friendly hike in Sequoia national Forest that takes you to a beautiful subalpine lake. The total trail is 6.5 miles out and back and is at its best from June through October. Also, if you have the urge to do some fishing, Weaver Lake is a great spot to catch a trout.

Hume Lake Trail:

Want to take it easy and spend the day by a lake with your pup? Then this is the spot for you. This is an easy 2.6 mile trail around the lake that is very family friendly. Hume Lake is another great spot for trout fishing and there are sandy beaches for playing in the water as well as boat and kayak rentals available during the summer.

Kings Canyon Scenic Byway:

While you can't hike with dogs in the national parks you are welcome to have them come along for a scenic ride. We recommend this aptly named 50 mile drive through the park. The scenery is truly breathtaking as you descend into one of the deepest canyons in North America and there are plenty of places along the way to pull over and stretch your legs.

Sequoia Resort Pet Policy: We love dogs! For their safety (and for that of the wildlife and other guests) we ask that you do not leave dogs outdoors unattended and please use a leash while walking the resort property. Also, we do ask that you kennel them if left alone in the houses.
